The new Transformers movie is absolutely stunning. This is a film that I will remember forever. At first, I had my doubts after seeing the first trailers. The transformers didn't look like their G1 selves, and I wasn't sure if the story would be good. However, I must admit Michael Bay and everyone else who's worked on the movie did an excellent job. Apart from the spectacular CGI (the transformation sequences are beyond cool), the excellent score and the brilliant story, the film itself is just great entertainment. Although the humour is a little tongue-in-cheek at places, it is not crude and the messages are meaningful without being corny. The scriptwriters also had the consideration to allude to the original series, such as the phrase "more than meets the eye" which is part of the tag-phrase of G1. "One shall stand, one shall fall" comes from Transformers the movie,  and 'Freedom is the right of all sentient beings" is Optimus Prime's motto.

Even better, there'll probably be a sequel that may possibly include the Constructicons and the Dinobots. Now that would push the movie to a whole new level.

Btw, if anyone wants to give me pages from the Album of Graduates on the 8th of August, just pass them to my parents. I've asked them not to look.

As I was surfing Tfkenkon.com to check out the toys from the upcoming Transformers movie, I came across the photos of an event that apparently took place in Times Square. It looks like someone had the bright idea to try Transformers Cosplay. It has been done before in the past, but at least they were at least presentable. Referring to the first photo, the characters being played are from left to right : Bumblebee, Optimus Prime, Soundwave, (unidentifiable Decepticon) and Starscream. Below the photo are photos of the way they looked in the cartoon and the comics. No prizes for spotting the differences. Why can't they just buy the toys like normal fans..

Thankfully I've almost fully recovered from my fever and can get straight back to work. It is hard to believe how anyone can be more stressed out AFTER the HKCEE than before it. Preparing for the TOEFL and the SATs is harder than I originally anticipated.

Everything we've learnt in Biology about lactic acid is apparently wrong......

Everyone who has even thought about exercising has heard the warnings about lactic acid. It builds up in your muscles. It is what makes your muscles burn. Its buildup is what makes your muscles tire and give out.

Coaches and personal trainers tell athletes and exercisers that they have to learn to work out at just below their "lactic threshold," that point of diminishing returns when lactic acid starts to accumulate. Some athletes even have blood tests to find their personal lactic thresholds.

But that, it turns out, is all wrong. Lactic acid is actually a fuel, not a caustic waste product. Muscles make it deliberately, producing it from glucose, and they burn it to obtain energy. The reason trained athletes can perform so hard and so long is because their intense training causes their muscles to adapt so they more readily and efficiently absorb lactic acid.

The notion that lactic acid was bad took hold more than a century ago, said George A. Brooks, a professor in the department of integrative biology at the University of California, Berkeley. It stuck because it seemed to make so much sense.

"It's one of the classic mistakes in the history of science," Dr. Brooks said.

The understanding now is that muscle cells convert glucose or glycogen to lactic acid. The lactic acid is taken up and used as a fuel by mitochondria, the energy factories in muscle cells.
